Engineering Resources
Engineering Services is now available Monday-Friday between 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM. City staff are available during front counter hours to answer questions in person, and will also respond to concerns over-the-phone or through email during business hours. Below are the changes to current Engineering services:
- Encroachment permits and Excavation permits for utility work and work in the public right-of-way will be issued electronically on a case-by-case basis.
- Residential inspections are limited. Please contact Engineering Services Department at (650) 947-2780 for more details.
The Engineering Division strives to provide excellence in serving the public. Typical responsibilities include:
- Implementation of the City Capital Improvement Program
- Planning and designing quality public infrastructure (Sanitary Sewer and Storm Water Protection)
- Management of special assessment districts
- Reviewing and issuing excavation permits (for utility work) and encroachment permits for various types of work in the public right-of-way
- Provision of floodplain management information
- Provision of City's bench mark information
- Overseeing City’s transportation network
- Preparing plans & specifications, bids, contracts, and providing inspection services for all City projects
Comprehensive Fee Update
After completion of a comprehensive Development Services Cost of Services (User Fee) Study, the City Council adopted new development services fees to be collected starting July 1, 2024. New fees include services provided by the Building, Planning, and Engineering Divisions.
