  • For an individual who is deaf, hard-of-hearing or has speech disability
  • For someone who is in a situation where it is not safe to place a voice call to 9-1-1
  • A medical emergency renders the person incapable of speech

Here is what to do:

  1. Include your location of the emergency and ask for police, fire or ambulance
  2. Answer questions and follow instructions of 911 call taker
  3. Text in simple words-no abbreviations or slang
  4. Keep text messages short

Independent Intake Official (IIO) - The City currently contracts with Stephanie Atigh, Attorney at Law to provide these services. At the recommendation of the Police Task Force, City Council has directed staff to provide an alternate means for members of the public to submit complaints against police officers.  This alternative source is identified as the Independent Intake Official (IIO)

Mobile Crisis Response Team - In Santa Clara County, this team is available to individuals in crisis that exhibit mental health symptoms, may be suicidal or at-risk.
