LOS ALTOS KICKS OFF YEAR OF CELEBRATIONS
IN HONOR OF 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF INCORPORATION
City Incorporated on December 1, 1952
Los Altos, Calif. – December 1, 2011 – The City of Los Altos is kicking off a year of events celebrating its 60th anniversary of incorporation, culminating in a gala dinner on Saturday, December 1, 2012, the actual date the City was incorporated. A committee of community leaders co-chaired by Los Altos Mayor Val Carpenter and Mayor Pro Tem Jarrett Fishpaw has been hard at work for the past six months planning a series of events to celebrate the 60th anniversary.
"I am honored to serve as the Mayor of Los Altos during the City's 60th year of incorporation," stated Val Carpenter. "I look forward to a great year."
Some highlights of the plans so far include a "Faces of Los Altos" exhibit at the Los Altos History Museum from May to October 2012, a children's photography contest on "How Los Altos Looks Today" sponsored by the Los Altos Libraries and Los Altos Youth Commission, a free family-oriented concert during the Chamber of Commerce Fall Festival on Saturday evening, October 6, 2012, and a Gala dinner dance on Saturday evening, December 1, 2012. In addition to Co-Chairs Val Carpenter and Jarrett Fishpaw, the Planning Committee includes City staff members Marie Backs and Beverly Tucker as well as community leaders Steve Anderson, Jeff Baier, Laura Bajuk, Jane Cronkhite, Jan Fong, Barry Groves, Dick Henning, Karen Jenney, Penny Lave, Don McDonald, Paul Nyberg, Doris Padilla, Karen Purtich, Jane Reed, Julie Rose, and Jim Thurber.
