Advocacy

On behalf of all pedestrians and bicyclists, regardless of age or skill level or disability, identify and prioritize projects:
  • Stevens Creek Trail Feasibility Study (completed July 2008)
  • Bicycle Transportation Plan Update (target completion 2Q2011)
  • Pedestrian Master Plan (target kickoff 2Q2011)
  • League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Community Application (awarded May 2011)
  • ITS Berkeley Technology Transfer Program pedestrian / bike assessment for Egan Junior High school commute (1Q2011)
  • Hazard elimination projects
    • Los Altos Ave between Edith Ave and Mariposa Ave
    • Signal pole removal, El Monte Ave @ Summerhill Dr
  • ADA accessibility improvements
    • ADA compliant entrances/exits at neighborhood connector pathways
    • Garden House ADA Access
    • Rancho Center @ Fremont sidewalk
    • ADA compliant pedestrian push buttons, countdown pedestrian signal heads, audible pedestrian signals

  • Review projects (usually at proposal or 35% complete designs). Includes street-scape designs for

  • Striping for resurfaced roads (all resurfacing projects 2005-present), leading to additional striping for cyclist safety on
    • Oak Ave, Grant Ave to Truman Ave
    • Miramonte Ave, Loraine Ave to Mountain View city limit
    • Grant Rd, Foothill Expressway to Newcastle Dr
    • Campbell Ave, Rosita Ave to Cuesta Dr
  • 35% designs for
    • Rosita Park / Rosita Ave Class I pathway
    • 2010 Safe Routes to School Project
  • Class I pathways to facilitate students:
    • Grant Rd, Oak Ave to Eureka Ave (2005)
    • Rosita Ave, Covington School to Campbell Ave and Arboleda Dr to Rosita (2Q2011)
    • Grant Rd, Bryant Ave to Altamead Dr (planned 2011)
    • Homestead Rd, El Sereno Ave to Sunnyvale city limits
  • Bridge projects:
    • Adobe Creek pedestrian / bike bridge replacement
    • Stevens Creek at Fallen Leaf bridge modernization

Staff Support

  • Provide detailed assessments of
    • Bicycle loop detector functioning status at signalized intersections
    • Intersection prioritization from pedestrian / bike perspective
    • Pole locations for new bike route signage
  • Provide recommendations to staff on
    • Reported hazards on Fremont Avenue at Delores intersection and on Arboretum near Foothill Expressway
    • Locations of 75 new bike racks in commercial areas and city facilities (parks, libraries, etc)

Community Outreach

  • Host Bike to Work Day energizer stations
  • Information booth at community picnics, school bike rodeos, GreenTown Bike Safety Expo
